A Step by Step Guide on How to Use and Maintain GODHAND PN120 Nipper
A nipper is a must-have tool in a modeler’s tool kit, and knowing how to keep the ones you have in good shape is important and will help you get the most out of your nippers over time.
Materials you will need:
- GODHAND PN120 Nipper
- Basic cutters
- Light Machine Oil
- Lint-free cloth/Tissue
- 1.5 millimeter Allen key/rings
- Flat pliers
How to Use GODHAND PN120 Nipper
Step One: Initial Cutting
Using the basic cutters, cut away from the sprue gate, leaving more than a millimeter between the sprue gate and the model piece. Initial cuts are made because it is difficult to make precise cuts while it is still attached to the sprue. By removing it from the sprue beforehand, cleanup will be simpler.
Step Two: Finishing Cuts
Using your GODHAND PN120 Nipper, remove the millimeter piece that was left from the initial cutting. Since the GODHAND PN120 Nipper is a single-edged nipper, it has a blade and a blunt end that holds it in place. During cutting, the blunt end acts as a stabilizer, allowing you to hold the sharp edge as close to the excess parts needed to be removed as possible. Once it is in place, all you need to do is gently squeeze the nipper, and it should cut the leftover bits off cleanly.
Tip: Always cut it adjacent to the shape of the piece you are cutting. This way, it is easier to trim without nicking the piece and ruining its shape.
These steps can be done while using your GODHAND Nipper for both the initial and finishing cuts. However, the best way to use the GODHAND Nipper is still with a basic cutter. Using the basic cutter for the initial cuts and the GODHAND Nipper for the finishing cuts will keep its blades from wearing out or going blunt too quickly, and since the initial cuts don’t need as much precision as finishing cuts, you can use your basic cutter however you want without worrying about ruining the blade’s edge.

How to Maintain GODHAND PN120 Nipper
Oiling
Oiling is an important part of maintenance because it protects your nippers from rust and surface corrosion. Regular oiling is essential, especially if you come from a humid region.
Step One: Oil Application
Apply the oil all over the nipper, paying particular attention to the area where it pivots. Make sure to coat every surface, since if you forget to coat even one part, it is likely that portion will start to rust. Put a drop of oil in between the pivot point and the nipper, making sure it gets into all the crevices. Open and close the nipper's jaws several times to further encourage the oil to spread itself in order to ensure that it is distributed evenly.
Tip: Place the oil inside a fine applicator before applying it. This makes it easier to apply it in small crevices and areas.

Step Two: Wipe the excess
Using a lint-free cloth or a tissue, wipe down the nipper. This is in order to rid the nipper of excess oil that can end up on your model, or worse, stain it. Make sure the amount of oil left is just enough to coat the nipper.
Adjusting
The best way to check if your nipper needs adjustment is the light test. With very little tension, hold your nipper up to the light; if light shines through, the cutter is no longer functioning properly and would not be giving a complete cut; and if you can squeeze the nipper past what it closes up to, there’s a good chance that it may be damaged in some way.
Step One: Undo the locking nut
Locate the locking nut below the pivot of the cutter’s jaws and, using a flat plier, undo it gently.

Step Two: Loosen the grub screw
After the locking nut is undone, use a 1.5 millimeter Allen key/driver and twist it counterclockwise to loosen the grub screw.

Step Three: Adjust the grub screw
Hold it up to the light and gradually tighten the grub screw until no more light is visible between the nipper's jaws. If necessary, loosen and tighten it until it looks just right.
Step Four: Tighten the locking nut.
To lock the grub screw in place, tighten the locking nut once it is well adjusted. Keep in mind to check if the grub screw is perfectly in place before locking it completely with a flat plier.
